It's well balanced for most situations, though if you want to use it for pretty much anything competitive(tournaments, online, etc), then you need to develope things a lot more. Look into EVs and IVs, first of all, and abilities can or break a team big-time. If you're ever in doubt, check out smogon (google it). They're the closest thing to an authority on such matters as you'll get.
