Is there a limit to how far you can go with a horror novel?

Asked: Is there a limit to how far you can go with a horror novel?

I'm writing a psychic horror novel in which a minor (13 years old) ALMOST gets raped by a worker at an orphanage (yet this fate does NOT befall our heroine, although it obviously scars her for life) prior to the awakening of a dark power that kills her attacker in the worst possible way. Would that trigger be considered taboo, even in the realm of ****** up dark fiction or horror? My main goal with this story is to illustrate a really messed up future America in a fictional urban setting.

Obviously, I'm not used to this particular genre of writing, so all helpful constructive criticism is welcome.Calling me a closet pedophile is not considered helpful, and when I mention stories like this, people often give me **** like that.

You can go as far as you are comfortable with. You're the writer, so, ultimately, it is up to you.
