how not to nit pick the bible?

Asked: how not to nit pick the bible?

i was watching the long island medium on tlc, and i was curious as to what the bible says about mediums and psychics and things like such as…
i am a christian but i do not agree with everything the bible has to say, not necessarily what it has to say but more like, dont agree with the continuity of the bible. like i dont think that the original bible, is anywhere near the bibles we have around today. the original books that are now in the bible, were written by pastors, as in pastors who corral sheep around and stuff, the language issue also makes me iffy about the whole bible itself. the english bible had to have been translated over a hundred times, from its original language to hebrew and arabic to 15 century english to the english we have today..
now, my issue is, i personally dont agree with what the bible says about homosexuality. but thats not the issue at hand here, i read that it also condemns mediums. now that i agree with, i dont see the problems with gays but i do see a problem with people who claim to be of God that speak to the dead?

is it wrong that i nit pick the bible? i cant help but feel this way, its just the way i feel about it, the way i believe it? do i stop? should i stop?

Don't worry. They're not "Of God" because God doesn't exist.

And no, it's not wrong of you to do that. Having blind faith in an ancient text that has been translated many times and has had many different authors and admissions throughout history is stupid.

Galileo Galilei, was jailed BY CHRISTIANS for showing the earth revolves around the sun and that other planets had moons that revolved around those planets. The bible taught the church who in turn taught christians that everything must revolve around the earth and that the world was flat because of the following statements.

Chronicles 16:30: — He has fixed the earth firm, immovable.
Psalm 93:1: — Thou hast fixed the earth immovable and firm
Psalm 96:10:– Thou has fixed the earth firm, immovable
Psalm 104:5: — Thou didst fix the earth on its foundation so that it never can be shaken.
Isaiah 45:18: — who made the earth and fashioned it, and himself fixed it fast
Samuel 2:8, 10 — The foundations of the earth are the LORD's; upon them he has set the world…the LORD will judge the ends of the earth.

Science — earth's rotation is 1000+ miles per hour and is rotating around the sun at just over 67,000 miles per hour. Approximately
Science — earth quakes the earth can be shaken!! the earth is not fixed and not immovable!!!! 😉

Right here some christians try to say that earth is not flat but a circle, however every idiot knows, including god, knows a CIRCLE is flat and they had games at this time that involved balls. If the bible is the word of god then you would think god would be intelligent enough to express this in the bible but god does not, little god doesnt even know the shape of his own creation…LOL
Isaiah 11:12– He sits enthroned above the CIRCLE of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.
He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in
Isiah 40:22 It is He who sits above the CIRCLE of the earth
Science — a circle is flat of course and the context of canopy and tent only reinforce the fact that the idiots believe the world to be flat.

Isaiah 11:12 — FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH.
Revelation 7:1 — angels standing on FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH (KJV)
Science — must be a rectangle or square to have four corners i.e. Flat Earth

Job 38:13 — ENDS OF THE EARTH
Jeremiah 16:19 — ENDS OF THE EARTH
Daniel 4:11 — ENDS OF ALL THE EARTH:
Science — the earth is implied to be flat i.e. it had ends but sphere can have no ends

Daniel 4:10-11 — The king "saw a tree of great height at the centre of the earth…reaching with its top to the sky and visible to the earth's farthest bounds."
Science — this is impossible on a spherical earth, yet again they imply a flat earth

Matthew 4:8 — Once again, the devil took him to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their glory.
Science — Obviously, this would be impossible unless the earth were flat.

Revelation 1:7: — Behold, he is coming with the clouds! Every eye shall see him
Science — Obviously, this would be impossible unless the earth were flat.

They had and used balls back then and knew what a sphere was, you would think the christian god would be smart enough to teach these morons this, after all god thought we would be smart enough to interpret his little want to be commandments…LOL… which atheists dont need because our morals are much higher.

As someone who is learning Hebrew (after learning Greek) to be able to read old documents, the Bible is very trustworthy.

As a Christian, I believe the Bible is God's Word, God-breathed through the instruments of the writers. The Bible is coherent and as God's self-revelation, it is authoritative. So, humbly, I would say to you that unless you stand under the Bible and let it judge you and lead you to repentence, you will be crushed by its truthfulness one day.We cannot as fallen created beings stand in judgment of it.

You say you are a Christian.Does that mean Jesus is your Lord?Do you understand what that means?Scripture is God's inspired word, and it's there to instruct us how to live within Godly parameters.Scripture is about God telling us how He intends for us to live and not you or me telling God He is wrong and we want to do things differently or our way.

Scripture tells us to stay away from mediums, psychics and witches and things like ouija boards. These are things of the devil, and Christians are God's.

About mediums:

Deu 18:9-15 KJVWhen thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.(10)There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,(11)Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.(12)For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.(13)Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.(14)For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the LORD thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.(15)The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

the whole bible itself. the english bible had to have been translated over a hundred times, from its original language to hebrew and arabic to 15 century english to the english we have today..

Not true we have two main groups of ancient manuscripts theLatin from the western church and the Greek manuscripts from the eastern church. There some minor language Coptic, Syriac, and Armenian that are also from the 4-7 century

My brother, it can be wrong to nitpick the bible. You cant cut parts out of it to fit your views or your life. The bible condemns mediums, and mediums should be put to death. Even in the new testament, there were sorcerers that were looked down on by the disciples. Nitpicking however, isnt good because you and others can get tripped up at one thing in the bible. The one thing that we all should do as christians is to spread the word of Jesus Christ to all, and try and warn people of the rapture coming. either the bible is one hundred percent gods word or none of it is. the discovery of the dead sea scrolls put to silence modern scholarship that claimed the bible wasnt the same as it had been origianlly written. isaiah is an example of a well educated jewish prophet whose language contains some of the highest forms of poetry and symmetry. moses was well learned in all the ways of egypt. heb 11. if you have a problem with the bible being anti gay, put it on the shelf and let god show you progressively about that. god has no beefs with you asking for wisdom and confirmation of his word, james 1, judges 6. he delights in those who seek the truth. prov 3. jer 29.11 to 13. groundwire.net

Frankie,

I respect that you've probably heard all these things somewhere and believed them, however I must tell you that you have been misled — if not lied to.

To begin with, there never was an "original bible." The bible is a collection of books. First we have what is called the Old Testament by Christians and the Tanakh by Jews. Christians adopted more or less the Tanakh books accepted by the Jews at the time as "canonical." Canonical means that the religious leaders of the day (around 30 CE, and not differing much from either the past or the present) accepted these books as inspired by God and agreed they should be part of the holy writings. The Tanakh is arranged in a different order from the Old Testament, and many of the books have different names, but it is the same material — the same writings.

The Jews also revere other historical Jewish literature, though they consider these other works secondary to the canonical works. Some branches of Christianity accept some of these secondary works as canonical to the Christian holy writings. We have copies of many of these Jewish works from original manuscripts created before the time of Christ (the Dead Sea Scrolls). The Dead Sea Scrolls were (with the exception of rare misspellings, rearrangements of words, and similar clerical inconsistencies) identical to later copies of the same books. This shows a HIGH degree of integrity in the copying process.

The New Testament is unique to Christians, and the different major branches of Christianity (Roman Catholic, Eastern/Russian Orthodox, Protestant) have slightly different canons. That is to say, the RC Old Testament contains some books the Protestant Old Testament does not consider canonical. The collection of canonical books in the Eastern/Russian Orthodox (EOX) churches is also slightly different from the other two branches. There are also much smaller variations in accepted New Testament books.

While the original manuscripts of either Old or New Testaments are no longer in existence, there are many, many, many early manuscripts available, and they are amazingly consistent with one another. The history of the New Testament goes back 2000 years, and absolutely NO competent historian denies this. As for the Old Testament, it is far more ancient. These are not books written by modern (or even medieval) pastors. They're the real deal, whether you accept them or not. They are unarguably ancient works of literature — whatever else they may be.

And yes, scripture is very clear that you shouldn't listen to mediums and etc. It's no doubt moderately less boring than sitting there staring into space, but it is deception. It's the art of a person who is good at reading other people — kind of like the Sherlock Holmes character, though it doesn't require as much cleverness as he has at his disposal.

I hope this helps,
Cindy

Yes, it is wrong to nit-pick the Bible – And,

If you disagree with what God (the author of the Bible) says about Creation,

WHY do you believe what He says about about Jesus ???

You 'CLAIM' to be a Christian, then spout off about the Bible being written by pastors.

As to homosexuality – Leviticus 20:13If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

And to mediums etc – Deuteronomy 18:10There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, :11Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. :12For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. :13Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God.

If you do not believe ALL the Bible you cannot call yourself a Christian.

You have some wrong ideas about the Bible.

The versions we have today are 1 step translations from the best original copies that can be found. This idea that there are many steps, with many changes is totally wrong. In fact, there are some 20,000 ancient copies around, and these are compared to eliminate transcription errors, editing, and so on.The Bible as it is now is as close to the original versions as it is humanly possible to get.

The fact that you don't agree with something in the Bible is immaterial. The Bible is what it is.For many, disagreeing with parts of it usually means that they don't really know it, nor understand it – same as you.The Bible has an amazing continuity, considering it is dozens of books by over 40 authors spanning some 1500 years.

So, nit picking… if you have issues with one (or more) areas, then, these are things to look in to, and study. There are often reasons why these things are there.I have to admit, there are things in the Bible I don't like, but, that doesn't give me the right to disagree with them being there.
